ABSTRACT

Minerals found in groundwater may have some healing properties for human bodies if their amount is not less than 15% of the recommended daily value. Ca and Mg are the most important. Lack of these two minerals in our daily diet can be largely offset by drinking water containing these minerals. It is estimated that a typical daily diet of the average Polish people lacks one third of these bio elements that are essential for the proper functioning of the body. Other countries face a similar problem. The healthiest mineral waters are extracted from deeper aquifers which are free of bacterial contamination and other harmful substances, and contain the appropriate level of minerals. Such waters can play a vital role in ecologically-oriented preventive healthcare programmes.
