ABSTRACT
This chapter focuses on examples of acceptable and non-acceptable housing or holding locations for animals used in research, teaching, and testing. The AWA and AWAR,1 the Guide,2 and the PHS Policy3 are the primary references utilized. There are few absolutes when considering animal housing and use sites. Professional judgment, institutional policy, and protocol goals and needs must all be considered when determining what is and is not an acceptable location for the care and use of animals.
