ABSTRACT

In Chapter 3, we dealt with the brief history of indentation testing. It would sound silly if we were to ask you to distinguish between what is hard and what is elastic. You could easily tell me that the rubber band used to tie up a ponytail is elastic and that the wall on which you display your power point presentations is hard. So we kind of appear to know already about hardness and elasticity. But, really, do we know everything that we need to know? This is what we are going to examine and unfold briefly in this chapter.
