ABSTRACT

For our studies on both the static and dynamic contact deformation behavior of glass (Chapters 10-15), we used commercial soda-lime-silica (SLS) glass with the principal components of ≈70 wt% of SiO2, 14 wt% of Na2O, and 8 wt% of CaO. The samples were either thin (≈330 μm) coverslips or about 1.4-mm-thick glass slides [1, 2].
