ABSTRACT

Chapters 13 and 14 have given us some idea about how the surface of the brittle glass samples gets damaged due to the effect of both the applied normal load and scratching speed. We also observed the scratch grooves by using the optical microscope, SEM, and FESEM. The qualitative measurements were done. But how do we quantify the damage inside the scratch grooves? Though we also measure the scratch parameters, they do not convey much information about the quantitative measurement of the extent of damage inside the scratch groove. A literature survey [1-13] also did not convey much information in this regard.
