ABSTRACT

The basic objective of the present work was to perform a comparative study of indentation size effects in the as-received alumina (ARA) and shocked alumina (SA) by utilizing the nanoindentation technique. Despite the wealth of literature [1-7], such studies are really rare [8]. The SA samples were shock-deformed at 6.5 and 12 GPa and subsequently recovered using a dedicated, specially designed momentum trap. The details of the experimental methods have already been discussed in Chapter 9.
