ABSTRACT

The recent remarkable progress in computing power, sensors and embedded devices, and wireless networking combined with data mining and cloud computing paradigms has enabled researchers and practitioners to create smart environments for useful application. However, existing designs have only been tested in size-limited settings. In this chapter, we discuss recent technological advances in smart environment design and data mining techniques that allow the technologies to scale more easily. We also highlight new analyses that can be performed on smart environment sensor data when such scaling is made possible.
