ABSTRACT

A diversion tunnel on the Bisagno River has been planned for flood protection in the city of Genoa, Italy. The first project was presented and approved in 2007 , but works never started pending appropriate budget. Following the November 2011 flooding event in Genoa, a first allotment was granted to ensure the first safety measure on the Fereggiano creek. This paper describes the 2013 project revision and deeply discusses the major changes planned. The 2013 project has been approved by the National Authority and works will start within the end of 2014 . The final setup is also of interest in comparable situations. In particular general recommendation and design criteria on intake system (i.e. shaft drops) may be derived.
