ABSTRACT

This paper presents the use of three-dimensional CFD-models to analyze the flow characteristics in vertical slot fishways. Prior to those analyses the applied numerical models have been carefully calibrated using data collected in field measurements as well as in laboratory experiments. This process was followed by multiple scenario simulations to predict the flow patterns emerging from different, not yet sufficiently examined boundary conditions and system configurations. The results of the investigations provide a substantial contribution to increase the resilience of either future planning as well as fish ecological expertise during the planning process.
