ABSTRACT

In this paper, we investigated the flow adjustment at the leading edge of a submerged vegetation patch. The elements of vegetation model were composed of Rigid strip plates. The results showed that (i) at the upstream edge of the vegetation patch, flow was diverted away from the vegetation layer and the 3-D diverging flow occurs, (ii) the Sweep-dominated area expands vertically and appears to cover the whole canopy layer and (iii) as the flow structure develops downstream, the length-scales of coherent structure becomes larger in both the streamwise and spanwise directions.
