ABSTRACT

Understanding of hydraulic mechanisms on and around the side weir is essential for the facilities to be designed and to be maintained well. Although past studies have advanced our ability to estimate the overflow discharge from a side weir, a detailed study of the three-dimensional turbulent flow structure for an open channel with overflow from a side weir has been lacking. An experimental study of the three-dimensional flow structure from an open channel with aspect ratios of two and three with overflow from a side weir has been carried out by the Authors. The study found some differences in the secondary flow characteristics between the case of aspect ratios of two and three.
