ABSTRACT
This chapter examines domestic violence in the African American community. Given the multiple challenges facing this population, the following questions are posed:
Is domestic violence more prevalent in the African American community than in other communities?
What are the barriers that impact African Americans addressing domestic violence?
What is needed to move forward to respond to the challenges and circumstances associated with domestic violence in the African American community?
An examination of the literature in this area is utilized to respond to these questions and to explore recommendations as to how to most effectively craft prevention and intervention strategies around this issue.
