ABSTRACT

The goal of this chapter is to examine the connections between physical child abuse, child neglect, and domestic violence. This will include a discussion of the definitions of child abuse and neglect (CAN) and intimate partner violence (IPV), the epidemiology and risk factors for CAN and IPV, the types of perpetrators, and various assessment tools, as well as explication of the mental illness, feminist theory, and intergenerational transmission of violence theories.
