ABSTRACT

This chapter will explore the use of goal setting as a tool to focus the delivery of rehabilitation for older people in home-care settings within New Zealand. The chapter begins with a description of the changing demographics across Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries over the next 20 years. Following this, the concept of successful ageing and related concepts will briefly be presented. Together with principles already discussed elsewhere in this book, these key concepts form the basis for the use of goal setting among the current cohort of older people accessing health services.
