ABSTRACT

Land reclamation has been the primary response to solving land shortages in coastal regions. The dredged soils, mainly consisting of ultra-soft soils with very high water content, low strength, and small permeability, are often used for the reclamation. Due to its low bearing capacity and small coefficient of consolidation, it is usually impossible to use additional preloading to consolidate ultra-soft soils. However, it has been proved that the vacuum preloading method is effective for the consolidation of ultra-soft soils.
