ABSTRACT

Analysis of the seismic performance of structures is becoming more crucial because of the increasing frequency of earthquakes.As a column is the most important element to transport the gravity load in a frame structure, its seismic performance is directly related to the seismic performance of the structure. Earthquake disaster investigations show that the decline of the load capacity of concrete columns is mostly because of plastic hinges. So, due to the cyclic effects of seismic forces, the plastic hinge longitudinal reinforcements fail, and once the failure happens, the load capacity of the concrete column decreases significantly. Therefore, it is of great importance to figure out the capacity of a column under seismic loading and establish an accurate buckling model.
