ABSTRACT

Gubeikou is a town of Miyun county in the northeastern Beijing. It is a critical place in war, known as the Key to the Capital. Once a place of strategic importance on the border for both military affairs and trading activities, Gubeikou is now known for its cultural heritages, after a history of 2400 years. The town has various cultural heritages and historic sites. Within the town, there are more than 130 historic buildings with documented history, including well-preserved remains of the ancient Great Wall, tombs of famous people, revolutionary sites, remains of ancient royal roads, ancient temples, etc. Some of these historic sites are the famous Simatai Great Wall, Linggong Temple, Tomb of Qilang, Yibusanyan Wells, and Liangbusanzuo Temples. From the Northern Song Dynasty, batches of literates have created abundant poems and songs here, leaving our generation valuable intangible cultural heritages. All these cultural heritage resources are precious cultural wealth of Gubeikou. More and more studies are focusing on the cultural heritages in Gubeikou along with the development of China’s culture industry and the high attention paid to the cultural soft power by the government in these years. However, these studies mostly focus on the hydrological geology [1-5], vegetation [6], historical and cultural functions [7-12], cultural heritage preservation [13, 14], etc. of Gubeikou. There has rarely been any study systematically organized and evaluated the various cultural heritages in Gubeikou. On the basis of literature review and field survey, this paper comprehensively evaluates the characteristics of these resources, in order to provide reference and basis for the protection and utilization of the cultural heritage resources of Gubeikou.
