ABSTRACT

Successful application of photonic methods requires considerable attention to experimental details and a good understanding of the instrumentation performance. e recorded spectra (absorption, reection, scattering, emission, or excitation) represent the photon emission rate or power recorded at each wavelength over a wavelength interval determined by the slit widths and dispersion of the monochromator. ere are a large variety of manufacturers of spectrometers, each oering several models with dierent

performance characteristics and each oering dierent options. Basic instrumentation components are also commercially available. For special applications, an investigator may assemble o-the-shelf components for his or her particular applications. e basic components can be adapted to design the instrument for each type of spectroscopic measurements.
