Figure 1 is the sketch of the arrangement of Increased Type according to Rules for Natural Gas Fuelled Ships (2013), merely showing the portside, which is set as the object of risk assessment.

It’s significant to know that pressure in gas supply lines within machinery spaces is less than 10 bar. Full penetration butt joint is one of the obvious features of Increased type. In addition, anywhere in machinery spaces including GVU is covered by two sets of gas detectors. The potential of LNG to be a ‘fuel of the future’ for the shipping industry is a hot spot almost daily. There is no doubt that LNG ticks the box in terms of emissions reductions compared to conventional fossil fuels (Michael D. Tusiani and Gordon Shearer 2007). But the expansion of LNG as a fuel into the mainstream shipping industry throws up a combination of technological and regulatory challenges that the industry must address.
