ABSTRACT

The term “telematics” comes from the French (fr. télématique). In the literature it began to appear at the beginning of the seventies of the twentieth century. It is a combination of two French words: telecommunications (fr. télécommunications) and informatics (fr. informatique). In the English vocabulary it began to be used only in the late seventies of the twentieth century, however, it was not widely used. It was not until the start of the European Union EU programs for the development of telematics in various fields, caused that the term began to be used more frequently. This period falls in the nineties. Today, the term “telematics” describes a field of science that integrates telecommunications and IT solutions.
