ABSTRACT

Dramatic increase in commercial shrimp farming has been recorded in the decades following the 1970s, particularly due to the market demand of the EU, USA, and Japan. Currently, approximately 80% of farmed shrimp is cultured in Asia, including China and Thailand. Latin America, especially Brazil, is also a major producer. Nevertheless, Thailand is the top exporter. Most farmed shrimp belongs to the family Penaeidae which includes Pacifi c white shrimp and Black tiger shrimp, comprising 80% of all farmed shrimp.
