ABSTRACT
Transportation network simulation tools are widely used. They permit end users to assess a priori or a posteriori numerous infrastructure designs and changes therein. Simulation is also used to determine the impacts of trafc management methods, driver support systems, and automated driving on, e.g., roadway capacities and travel times. In the past decade, the types of assessment criteria have expanded with the objectives to estimate congestion relief and quantify the environmental and trafc safety impacts. The range of applications of trafc simulation software has broadened signicantly.
