ABSTRACT

Important considerations for beneficial use include salinity, grain size, and degree and type of contamination. Numerous technical disciplines have a role to play in project development including hydrology, engineering, sociology, biology, ecology, pedology, geology, and toxicology. As an example of how sediment utilization as topsoil can work, this paper will focus on our experiences with the Illinois River basin in the center of the United States, which has major industrial and agricultural areas.
