FACTS ABOUT BRAZIL Area: e Federative Republic of Brazil is a country in South America, bordering the Atlantic Ocean in its east side. It is also bordered, on its western side, by Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, French Guiana, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, and Venezuela. Brazil is the largest country in South America and the h-largest country in the world with a total area of 8,514,877 sq. km. Population: e last census survey conducted in Brazil, in 2010, indicated that the country’s population exceeded 190 million* inhabitants.† Of these, more than 30 million (or about 17% of the population) are adolescent girls and boys who are between 12 and 18 years old. Most of these adolescents reside in urban areas (81.9%), and the ethnic composition of this group is white (42.3%), black (56.2%), yellow (1%), and Indians (0.5%). Brasilia is the capital. Climate: Brazil’s climate is predominantly tropical. However, due to its  enormous landmass, the country’s weather is quite diversied. ere is a signicant weather  dierence between the south, with temperate conditions, and the north and northeast of the country, with its equatorial climate conditions.
