ABSTRACT

According to the 2012 World Hunger map produced by the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) https://www.fao.org/fileadmin/ templates/hunger_portal/docs/poster_web_001_WFS.pdf), 868 million people (12.5% of the world’s population) are undernourished, especially in the regions of Africa and West Asia. At the same time, non-balanced diets and overeating trigger important obesity issues in several other countries (FAO 2013a). Adding to this, the world population continues to increase and additional food sources are required.
