ABSTRACT

Radio Technical Commission for Aeronautics (RTCA) SC-135 is a standing committee updating requirements and technical concepts for aviation document (RTCA DO-160) as new environmental issues are noted in use or when new technology is introduced that deserves a new method of testing. RTCA DO-160 environmental testing is required for various components used in an avionics system to determine their ability to perform as specified by the product’s specification defined by the purchaser, manufacturer, or governmental agency, such as the federal aviation administration. The standard environmental test conditions and test procedures contained herein may be used in conjunction with applicable equipment performance standards as a minimum specification under environmental conditions, which can ensure a sufficient degree of confidence in performance during operations. RTCA DO-160 is the standard to use for assuring the airworthiness of the device in its intended environment in the avionics certification process.
