ABSTRACT

Today Ukraine experiences steady tendency for reduction of coal mines number. Moreover, there is also a great number of old closed mines; hence, the problem of methane recovery from coal-rock massif and mine workings is actual both economically and environmentally. About 120 mines have been closed at the territory of Ukrainian Donbas; similar number of mines is regarded as futureless being prepared to be removed from operation and phased out. Closing process is followed up by methane recovery to gob workings, isolated workings, and worked-out space of out-of-work mine workings. In this context methane eventually migrates through technogenic fractions up to earth surface inviting danger to population and objected located within a territory of closed mine take. In addition much methane is wasted despite it is environmentally friendly fuel. Determination of mining and geological conditions for methane redistribution within undermined coal-rock massif makes it possible to implement ideas concerning reliable decision of methane technogenic reserves expansion; that will give ability to attract extra power resources improving environment in coal mining regions by means of extraction and utilization of methane from closed mines and worked-out sites of productive mines.
