ABSTRACT

Chromite ore manifestation within the Belozersky iron-ore district are identified and specified in the drill-hole core throughout South Belozersky serpentinite mass. According to the research ore manifestation is presented as stripe-like, lenticular and rare disseminated chromite accumulations in apodunite, rarely in apoharzburgite serpentinites. Their width does not exceed 1-5 m; the cubic contents of chromite are up to 20-30%, contacts of lentils with the enclosing rocks are gradual, unsharp. Size of chromespinelide crystals does not exceed hundredths and tenths of a millimeter. The oval shape of the grains and growths corresponds to nodular microtexture, which allows to assume the segregation character of ore accumulations. Primary silicates (olivine, orthopyroxene) are entirely replaced

by chrysotile, antigorite and bastite. A widespread and usually intensive replacement of chromite by magnetite (Figure 1) or its complete dissolution in serpentinization is extremely unfavorable on the practical side.
