ABSTRACT

A truss steel bridge has been constructed since 30 years ago in Vietnam. Recently, the pavement structure has damaged even though it is renovated. Occurrence and progressing mechanism of fatigue cracks in the pavement on orthotropic steel deck is complex and related to traffic conditions, structural details and deterioration of truss bridge structures and orthotropic steel deck. It is suspected that the behavior of the orthotropic steel deck of the truss bridge may be inducing fatigue of the pavement at the locations where stressconcentration occurs. Furthermore, this may be aggravated by the heavy traffic load on the bridge. Any reinforcement to the steel deck or truss structure could mitigate such a phenomenon should be carefully investigated. Thus, influence of deterioration of truss structure to the pavement structure is observed and analyzed in this paper.
