ABSTRACT

The rebar embedded in the concrete will be corroded by the aggressive chloride from environment. This type of damage seriously reduced structural capacity within service life. In this paper, based on Finite Element Method, numerical assessment approach for structural performance and diffusion of aggressive agent were developed and verified. According to practical experimental data, degradation process of natural corrosion of rebar was modeled by assessment approach. With the type of time-dependent evaluation named as interactive durability analysis, a concrete arch bridge was analyzed in detail. Structural performance degradation of arch, crossbeam, deck regarding the corrosion of rebar was evaluated. With assessment of damage mode, the remaining capacity of arch bridge was obtained within its designed service life. Result provided a basis for rehabilitation strategy once limit of minimum structural capacity requirement was attained.
