ABSTRACT
Railway bridges pose substantial components of the Austrian rail network in terms of safety and costs. An optimized maintenance strategy is essential for increasing the efficiency of the existing track network and also bears great cost saving potential. With the aid of stochastic numerical simulation, the project CILIA investigated the factors which considerably contribute to the ageing of bridge structures and ultimately aims to facilitate life-cycle cost analysis.
