ABSTRACT

Nuclear containments constitute as an important safety barrier between nuclear reactor and the surrounding environment. If the containment lose its integrity by a reactor accident, it will directly causes the radioactivity contamination of surrounding environment. According to the economical situation of the environment, required decontamination and compensation cost will be changed. The first objective of this study is therefore, to compare the expected losses from radioactivity contamination at two different sites. These sites has different surrounding environment as well as economical situation. Among the various losses, human loss, economical loss and restoration loss are considered for evaluating expected losses. After that, this study aims to present a rational approach to present target reliability for nuclear containments, based on the results of expected loss estimation.
