ABSTRACT

In this study, 3D computational simulations based on different concrete creep and shrinkage models are employed to investigate the long-term deformation of a large-span prestressed concrete bridge. Utilizing an improved rate-type algorithm powered by continuous spectrum method and exponential algorithm, the asymptotical behaviors of the deflection and shortening at the main cantilever tip are captured in simulations for different creep models. It is found, compared to deflection, for some creep models the slope of the shortening curve correlates with the asymptotical trend of concrete creep more consistently and this close correlation can be established at a relatively young age after construction. Thus it can be used to realistically predict long-term deformation of the bridge, as well as to closely approximate the governing parameters in the compliance function of those creep models if applicable.
