ABSTRACT

Currently, there are around 13 network operators providing mobile communication services in India including the two public service undertakings (PSU), BSNL and MTNL. Private operators hold around 87.78% of the wireless market share (based on subscriber base), whereas the PSU operators hold only 12.22% market share. At present, prepaid subscribers account for 96% of the total mobile subscribers in India. Out of the total 150 million Internet users in India, there were around 87.1 million mobile Internet users till December 2012, and this number is expected to reach 130.6 million by March 2014 and 164.8 million by March 2015 (Indian Media and Entertainment Industry Report, 2012).
