transfer by Thai EFL learners compared with Americans. In his study, he concluded that Thais and Americans shared many similarities in making refusals, but gratitude was used less frequently, which may led to communication breakdowns. Kwon (2004) compared refusals between Korean English speakers of different language efficiency and American English speakers from the perspectives of frequency and content of semantic formulas, observed pragmatic transfer in all groups of EFL learners, and see positive correlation between pragmatic transfer and learners’ proficiency.
