The risk factors for many chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and some cancers are associated with poor diet and/or weight gain. Preventing diseases through improved nutrition is now aglobal health priority. However, before adults can improve the quality of their diet, they need to have agreater awareness of what constitutes healthy eating. Many adults are unaware of what they are eating and believe their diet is healthy when it isn’t. Therefore, accurate and timely assessment of food intake is necessary so that consumers can be better informed on what constitutes ahealthy diet consistent with a country’s dietary guidelines.
