ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: Indonesia and Taiwan began patient safety reporting at almost the same time. To date, there are substantial differences between the numbers of cases reported annually in each country. This study compares the Indonesian and Taiwan patient-safety reporting systems in order to learn from Taiwan’s successful patient-safety reporting system. We searched the patient safety agencies websites, guidelines, and reports, published and unpublished articles and performed descriptive comparative analysis on relevant documents. We found some similarities on who can report, content of report, the procedure, confidentiality and the nature of reporting. Supported by its advanced data management technology, Taiwan is more comprehensive on methods of reporting, incident analysis; providing feedback, learning and system evaluation. Indonesia has established a framework for the reporting system but some improvements can be made, specifically on the utilization of data to enhance learning, providing various feedback mechanisms, and the evaluation of the system.
