ABSTRACT
Introduction The spleen and lymph nodes combined constitute the bulk of the reticuloendothelial (monocyte-macrophage) system. During fetal development, the spleen serves a transient role of haematopoiesis. In adult life the spleen and lymph nodes share many functions with regard to immune processing, and are, therefore, not surprisingly, commonly involved in similar disease processes.
