ABSTRACT

Since clinical pathology impacts on essentially all disease states, the number and diversity of tests performed is tremendous. Due to this variety of tests and the need for expertise in specic medical areas, clinical pathology is typically divided into multiple specialty laboratories. While the number and division of the laboratories may vary depending on the scope and size of the institution, a general division and focus of the laboratories is shown in Table 15.1. More specic information regarding disease diagnosis and the types of instruments for each laboratory will be provided in the following sections.
