ABSTRACT

Justice Paul J. de Muniz retired from the bench and stepped down from his position as the 41st Chief Justice of the Oregon Supreme Court in January 2013. Justice de Muniz was elected as justice to the Oregon State Supreme Court in 2000 and he served two 6-year terms. He was appointed as chief justice of the Oregon Supreme Court in 2006, and he was the rst Hispanic to serve as chief justice in Oregon State history. Prior to serving on Oregon’s highest court, Justice de Muniz served as a justice in the Oregon Court of Appeals from 1990 to 2000. In over two decades of judicial service, de Muniz reviewed and voted on numerous cases pertaining to Oregon State criminal law.
