ABSTRACT

The evolution of corrections in the Kingdom of Thailand has a long history. The development of correctional systems and practices in Thailand has been influenced by a variety of political, economic, and social factors that have affected the current state of affairs in corrections. This has been true during each era or phase of correctional history in the nation. Prior to the reign of King Rama V (1868-1910), prisons and jails were unsystemized and widely dispersed in all important cities under the administration of various agencies, like the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Interior, and Ministry of Defense.
