ABSTRACT

Wounds and soft-tissue defects in low-and middle-income countries (LMICs) are often both more complex and more challenging to treat than the typical presentation in developed settings. A diverse spectrum of etiologies and an all-too-frequent delay in diagnosis and treatment demand an awareness of the basics of wound care and soft-tissue coverage, as well as of the reconstructive options available at the district level. This chapter will focus on the basics of soft-tissue coverage and will provide guidelines for both basic and advanced reconstruction.
