ABSTRACT

L.H. 2004). The Theory of Capturing Stream has obtained strong support of evidences in topography and marine sedimentology, but it is out of geomorphic evidences and sedimentary evidences directly recording the stream capture. Many scholars have pointed out that Hongwen Village-Jianchuan valley is a residual “wind gap” (Ren M.E. 1959; Zeng Z.X. 1991) of the south water system captured by the ancient Yangtze River. However, the valley is not exactly the real “wind gap” (He J.S. & He K.Z. 1989; Xu Z.L. & Li X.J. 1982) for lack of the river alluvium. It is because of these reasons that a few scholars believe that the formation mode of the W drainage pattern of the Jinsha River may has nothing to do with capture, but “embedded to the river bend ” (Xu Z.L. & Li X.J. 1982; Zeng Z.X. 1991) or “the rivers’ adaption to the structure”. (Cheng J. 1994; He J.H. & He K.Z. 1991; Wang K.Y. 1989).
