ABSTRACT

Chemical processing plants use vast amounts of energy of various types. These include, amongst others, electricity, natural gas, water etc. On the average, in terms of money, 50% is spent on electricity, 45% on natural gas and the remaining 5% on water (Jayaseelan et al. 2012). One of the reasons is due to the vast numbers, high power-rated and high speed rotating, sliding and reciprocating equipment involved in this industry

1.2 Problem statement

The said plant, which is based in the north of peninsular Malaysia, has its parent company in Germany. The latter is already certified to ISO 50001 Energy Management Standards. The former is therefore seriously embarking on the certification of its facility in Malaysia.
