ABSTRACT

Current configuration of young foreign language teachers in universities for nationalities shows that young teachers have grown into the pillar of foreign language teaching. Though proportion of young teachers is diversified in different universities, young foreign language teachers stably enlarge its percentage on the whole, resulting in the main power in the development of foreign language teaching. Data indicate that young foreign language teachers in universities for nationalities accounts for over 80% of the entire teachers, among which PhD is about 10% and master about 30% with the rest highly educated [3]. Therefore, it could be concluded that young teachers account for a large proportion playing a significant role in overall foreign language teaching in universities for nationalities. However, in terms of professional practice ability, some young teachers in universities for nationalities expose some defects, for example, about 30% lacks his/her own perception of professional practice ability. Some even neglect self-improvement

1 PURPOSE OF INVESTIGATION

At present, professional practice ability of foreign language teachers in universities for nationalities exposes inadequacy and receives different requirements from the universities for nationalities. Proceeding from current state, the investigation was conducted to produce reliable data. Based on the data, suggestions and measures for reform are specifically put forward in line with requirements of universities. Investigation mainly involves in teachers’ profiles, including knowledge of foreign language, teaching concept, research capacity in teaching performance, and capacity for self-improvement and self-discovery [1]. Teaching evaluation for various teaching levels and teaching outcomes are also studied to get knowledge of current professional practice ability.
