ABSTRACT

The training of violin’s basic skills involves a complete system, obviously indicated in the violin teaching in Europe and the United States. In this system, the training is divided into many components including lots of details such as right and left hand practice, intonation and pronunciation practice. Left-hand practice includes the training of position shifting, vibrato, finger picking and other detail skills. The systematic training enables students to acquire the basic skills in a more comprehensive way and to play violin at their own will. At present, the relatively popular systematic-training mode includes the following sections of training: the first is the practice of standing posture and standardized violin holding method; the second is the basic-skill practice of right hand; the third is

Violin creates beautiful music only with meticulous playing skills. In another words, only players equipped with skillful playing techniques can activate graceful music from violin. However, solid basic skills are the foundation of skillful techniques, leading to the palace of art without any shortcut. Therefore, the training of basic violinplaying skills must start from the enlightenment stage. If students didn’t develop good habits during that stage, serious negative impact will happen to the future study of violin. Based on the analysis of violin basic-skill training methods, this paper introduced the teaching theory and experiencetraining the basic skills of playing violin-in order to improve the teaching level and innovate the traditional teaching ideas [1]. As the famous violin expert Galamian said, “nobody can learn violin just from books, and all the content about violin in books is just some basic principles; if students want to understand and flexibly grasp the specific content of those principles, they need lots of practices and exercises.”
