ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: The properties of a new ecological fishway developed from the traditional Denil fishway were studied by comparative experiments. The experimental model and detail experiment procedure were presented in this paper, and the lateral pressure on fish and the desilting performance were explored for the new ecological fishway and the traditional Denil fishway. The experimental results indicate that the lateral pressure on fish was the same between the two fishways before and after crossing the fishway baffle. But when crossing the baffle, lateral pressure on fish and the variation range in the ecological fishway were much smaller than another, which is beneficial to the migratory fish. As for the desilting performance, there was only a little sediment left in the ecological fishway compared with the traditional Denil fishway, improving the equipment’s service life and decreasing the maintenance cost. The ecological fishway with superior properties has an expected future application in the hydraulic engineering.
