ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: Irrigation with water of different arsenic concentration (0.292, 0.146, 0.102, 0.073, 0.05, 0.029 mg/L) was conducted on small region of paddy fields, aiming to study its effect on soil condition, rice yield and quality and arsenic migration in rice. This research proved that when water of different arsenic concentration was used for irrigation, arsenic content in soil decreased with reduction of arsenic concentration in irrigating water, however, the arsenic absorbability of soil increased. The results indicated that irrigation water with high arsenic concentration did strongly inhibit rice production, appearance quality and milled rice quality. However, no significant adverse influence on rice nutrition was discovered. In addition, the arsenic concentration in paddy rice increased with the increase of arsenic concentration in irrigation water. The arsenic content in paddy plant was found in roots>leaves>straws>polished rice. Arsenic absorbability of root system increased most obviously among others when arsenic concentration in irrigation water increased.
