ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: In this paper experimental researches of confluent bend channel are carried out in a conceptual physical model channel with U type bend intersected by a straight tributary at the bend apex. Flow velocities in cross sections are measured by means of three-dimensional acoustic Doppler velocimeter (ADV). The experimental results show that the larger flux ratio, the bigger radial velocity is. And the direction of velocity is affected by the spiral flow. Increase of junction angle could result in reduced longitudinal velocity at concave bank but result in enlarged longitudinal velocity near the convex bank. The water streamline at upstream and downstream are quite different with the change of the flux ratio and junction angle. The characteristics of separation zone are affected by the secondary flow and change with the flux ratio and junction angle change.
