ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: In feasibility study stage, the Shannipo arch dam is designed with the maximum height of 119.4 m. The dam can bear 7.16 × 106 kN water thrust in total, while 20% of it is bore by the dam foundation. Since requirement of the foundation is relatively lower in arch dam construction, it is applicable for us to elevate the height of the foundation plan in the original design. This research is carried out in the fields of foundation plane optimization and dynamic design of Shannipo arch dam. In the research, the focus is on the structural analysis of arch dam. The deformation modulus is the key variable point in this sensitivity analysis. Geophysical exploration measures are applied in the research and the dam foundation is elevated by 9.4 m. Consequently the dam safety is improved. Concerning economic factors, the project investment can be lowered by 6.6 million. Meanwhile, the whole construction period is shortened by 6 months.
